Registered Nurse

Employment FAQ’s:

The Green House home is staffed by a self-managed work team of Shahbazim. The team shares all care and household responsibilities. Each team member assumes rotating coordinator responsibilities to facilitate accountability for specific duties, communications, and reporting. The team and individual Shahbaz work collaboratively with the Clinical Support Team on matters related to skilled nursing services. They report to the Guide in all other matters.

The Clinical Support Team (CST) consists of all of the clinical professionals participating in care for the Elders, which includes: nurses, social workers, activity professionals, therapists, dietitians and physicians. All of these team members join in partnership with Elders, Shahbazim, families to bring expert gerontological clinical knowledge to each home. The CST directs all matters related to skilled nursing services.

The Team of Shahbazim at the Green House are multi-skilled at handling the management of the home as well as caring for and building relationships with the Elders. Additional training is received to prepare staff for handling these duties. In a traditional setting C.N.A.s are isolated specialists working under many levels of management with limited information. At Green House Living for Sheridan, the Shahbazim and the Elders are partners in the decisions made in the homes; with a high level of commitment to quality care and meaningful living.

The Shahbazim do not directly report to the nurses in the Green House, but instead work in partnership. The nurses are in the home throughout the day and work with the Shahbazim and the Elders, serving as care role models, gerontological nurses, mentors, and teachers. The Green House model is about building a home where elders and staff are living rich and meaningful lives. At the same time, Elders being served in our homes have complex skilled nursing needs. Nurses assess and meet those clinical needs while supporting the quality of life of each Elder.

The Green House model is grounded in the notion that Elders have the right to excellent, evidence-based medical and clinical care, however:

“Medical treatment should be the servant of genuine human caring, never its master.”

Quality of care is critical. But quality of life needs to be first in consideration of all care and treatment. It is the elder who determines what constitutes quality of life.
